TOTAL Preparedness for LOR

Being only 1 mile inland from the one of the fastest flowing river estuaries in the UK is a good reason to keep your oil spill preparedness regularly tested. TOTAL Lindsey Oil Refinery was taking such measures when they ask us to deliver oil spill training to a number of their key staff. This culminated in a series of practical deployments at previously identified difficult to access sites.

The land surrounding the oil terminal is criss-crossed with drainage ditches to the River Humber and includes a number of ecologically sensitive Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). TOTAL used the training as an opportunity to test the suitability of their mobile fast response unit. This unit holds oil spill containment equipment and related ancillaries, tailored to the first responder’s requirements.

After several days of classroom theory and table-top exercises, the group were eager to prove their knowledge in a practical context. We were impressed how the team excelled in their enthusiasm and ability to provide a safe and effective response.
