Training with an Environmental Perspective

Kevin and Peter provided training for the BTC pipeline company in Adana, south-east Turkey. BTC exports crude oil from the Caspian region and the Turkish section is operated by Botas International Limited (BIL). Staff from BTC, BIL and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry attended.

The course was targeted at environmental staff. Alongside an overview of oil spill response and BIL’s contingency plans, the training included specific consideration of Net Environmental Benefit Analysis, Clean-up Endpoints, Shoreline Survey Techniques, Wildlife Response and Site Remediation.

Peter’s experience as an ecological advisor at various oil spills proved extremely useful in addressing the specialized environmental aspects of the course. The event was also able to incorporate a day in the field, including observation of equipment deployment by BIL’s oil spill response contractor and a visit to the Ceyhan oil spill response depot.
