Boom being prepared for deployment
|
Shoreline equipment deployment was carried out in the Port of Ereğli, on the Turkish Black Sea coast. This was part of OSPRI’s continuing support to preparations for a major regional exercise, named SULH 2007, to be hosted by Turkey in Ereğli.
Peter Taylor worked on behalf of OSPRI, in cooperation with the Turkish authorities and personnel from OSRL/EARL and Meke Marine to deliver the training. Thirty participants took part, using equipment provided both by OSRL/EARL and Meke Marine.
The OSRL/EARL equipment had been mobilized from their Bahrain base, as a test of customs procedures and logistics prior to the SULH 2007 exercise. The emphasis of the training was practical deployment but it also covered shoreline assessments and the development of booming plans.
All SULH 2007 activities are being undertaken within the framework of the Black Sea Commission, in cooperation with its member States.
