Two 2-day oil spill claims workshops for the Black Sea region took place in the historic city of Istanbul, Turkey and were organized and supported by Peter Taylor, acting in his role as OSPRI Manager. In attendance were 50 people representing oil companies, ship-owners, oil spill contractors and regional bodies. Also participating were government representatives from all six Black Sea countries.

The events were facilitated and delivered by senior representatives from the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds, ITOPF and the UK P&I Club. The event was an excellent opportunity for the delegates to gain a very good understanding of how the international oil spill compensation conventions function and a forum to interact with the experts directly involved in these matters. The workshops were organized in partnership with the Black Sea Commission and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
Whilst in Istanbul, Peter was also able to participate in a meeting of the Black Sea Commission Advisory Group on Environmental Safety Aspects of Shipping, where very good progress was made with the organization of future oil spill preparedness activities in the region.
