 The Oil Spill Training Company was contracted to carry out an Oil Spill Risk Assessment Study on behalf of the partners in a significant oil transportation project currently under consideration in the Former Soviet Union. The project incorporated consideration and assessment of both land and marine transportation elements and options. We drew on our extensive background knowledge of the geographic areas concerned to ensure the assessment was accurate and comprehensive.
The project was enhanced by the use of external expertise. Alun Lewis, a well known and experienced oil spill consultant and research scientist, as part of the project team assisted with the risk identification and analyses. The project also involved the need for a variety of oil spill modelling studies, which were carried out for us by Applied Sciences Associates, using their Oilmap modelling tool.
It is anticipated that the Risk Assessment Study will provide important guidance to the transportation project’s engineering team. It should also form a solid base for the development of Oil Spill Contingency Plans, should the project be developed.
