Wildlife Response Planning for BP Azerbaijan

BP is committed to a healthy and safe environment wherever it operates. They have plans and safety systems in place to handle a wide range of emergencies. While some of these are required by law, other prevention and protection measures BP use exceed regulatory requirements. At the beginning of 2004, BP contracted The Oil Spill Training Company Ltd to produce an Oiled Wildlife Response Plan (WRP) for their operations in Azerbaijan.

The planning process was designed to integrate fully into BP's existing Incident Management System. Specialist input was provided in areas of bird cleaning/rehabilitation protocols, veterinary care, specialized facility and equipment requirements, seal-care and post-mortem procedures by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the International Bird Rescue Research Centre (IBRRC). Their expertise was drawn upon to ensure that the WRP was not only fit-for-purpose in Azerbaijan but met all current standards in the international rehabilitation community.
