
Batumi Oil Terminal |
The Oil Spill Training Company was asked to review oil spill contingency arrangements at Batumi Oil Terminal in Georgia. The terminal on the Black Sea coast has been exporting oil for over 100 years and in 1998 became a private company. Significant investment is being made to improve infrastructure and capacity and in 2002 Batumi Oil Terminal exported approximately 8.5 million tonnes of oil. The Oil Spill Training Company were contracted to provide recommendations to ensure oil spill contingency plans meet international best practice.
Peter Taylor met personnel from various organizations at Batumi, to discuss the joint planning between Batumi Oil Terminal, the Batumi Sea Port , Black Sea Convention Inspectorate and the Maritime Transportation Administration. A series of recommendations were produced from the review and these were implemented to develop and improve existing plans.
