Oil Spill Contingency Planning for UK Defence Contractor

QinetiQ manages several sites in the UK on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Following an audit to ensure that its sites would meet pending petroleum storage regulations, the company took the pro-active steps to review their capability to response to oil spill incidents both on land and on water.

The Oil Spill Training Company was chosen to develop an Oil Spill Contingency Plan with Site Specific Protection Plans for three the sites on the west coast of Scotland . The Plans were designed to be user friendly, containing a number of laminated action cards with site-specific information and advice. The Contingency Plan was produced both as an electronic version on CD and controlled hard copies. Site staff received training in the use of the plan, theoretical aspects of dealing with oil spillages and hands-on use and deployment of equipment.
