OSCE Events in Turkmenistan

John Østergaard was invited to contribute to two events organised by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and held in Ashgabat and Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan:

• Second preparatory conference to the 16th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum (EEF).
• Technical Workshop on Oil Spill Response and Remediation for the Caspian Sea Region.

John was able to share his broad experience of assisting the countries of the Black Sea and Caspian Sea in their development of national and regional oil spill preparedness. He highlighted the existing work undertaken with support from IMO, UNEP and UNDP, allowing OSCE interests to focus their considerations on complementing these on-going efforts.

StatoilHydro represented OSPRI at the workshop and delivered a presentation which Peter Taylor had helped draft. This facilitated a consistent and supportive message from industry regarding oil spill preparedness.
