Successful support to government and industry co-operation

After over four years and six regional meetings, the hard work of the Caspian Environment Programme, IMO and the five Caspian littoral States paid dividends with the finalization of the technical document, 'Protocol concerning Regional Preparedness, Response and Co-operation in Combating Oil Pollution Incidents'.

Peter has been honoured and privileged to participate in this process since 2001, representing IPIECA and OSPRI. It is hoped that this draft Protocol will now be approved for formal signing and ratification by the littoral States, thus becoming the legal basis of the draft Caspian regional plan for cooperation during major oil spills.

At the close of the sixth meeting, which took place at the CEP Programme Co-ordination Unit in Tehran, Peter and OSPRI were thanked for their continuous support throughout the drafting procedures. Partnership between government and industry is a key element in successful preparedness and response to oil spills. The Oil Spill Training Company is delighted that we can help OSPRI demonstrate success in working together with the Caspian States to develop and improve regional cooperation.
