A major demonstration of oil spill response capability was organized by the Kazakhstan Ministry of Emergencies, in cooperation with other government agencies and the oil industry. The event took place alongside a regional meeting of Ministries of Emergencies in Bautino on the north Caspian Sea coast and was witnessed by ten Ministers.

In addition to on-water deployments of offshore containment and shoreline protection booms, observers were able to view static equipment for fire-fighting, oil spill response and medical emergencies. Peter Taylor was able to attend the event representing OSPRI.

The day following the demonstration, a meeting of the National Oil Spill Commission was held in Aktau. Peter was able to make a presentation to the Commission about OSPRI and its on-going successful work in facilitating government and industry cooperation at national and regional levels. He was also able to hold meetings with local OSPRI members whilst in Kazakhstan.
