- Measuring the Survey Area - Estimating the size of the survey area using GPS readings, time and distance calculations, or 'guesstimates'.
- Identifying Oil Appearances - Identifying the appearance of oil spills and assigning appearance codes - identifying 'false indicators' for oil spills.
